MADISON, WISCONSIN — District Administration Magazine has chosen NewsCurrents Online and Read to Know, two weekly current events programs published by Knowledge Unlimited, for its list of Readers' Choice Top 100 Products of 2011.
This honor is given annually to K-12 education products that support innovation in education. The winners were selected by the editors of "District Administration" from nominations submitted by readers, including school superintendents and district-level directors across the United States. There were a record number of nominations this year.
The winning products were determined by the quantity of nominations received per product, as well as an evaluation of product quality based upon readers' nominations and explanations. "The recommendations we receive include extensive descriptions from school administrators of how these products are used in their districts and the difference they have made, making it very challenging to choose only 100 products," said Judy Faust Hartnett, District Administration editor in chief.
NewsCurrents Online is a discussion program for grades 3-12 focused on national and international current events. Read to Know is an online news magazine written on a 5th- to 9th-grade reading level. Hundreds of thousands of students use these programs every week to build background knowledge, vocabulary, listening and speaking skills, civics and geography information, and critical thinking.
"We are incredibly honored by the fact that so many district-level curriculum experts nominated our programs for this award," said Judith Laitman, the founder and president of Knowledge Unlimited. "It shows that today's teachers and administrators understand how important it is for students to know what's going on in the world."
Knowledge Unlimited is an independent publishing company located in Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to its current events programs, Knowledge Unlimited also produces posters, teaching kits, DVDs, resource guides, and the Zino Press Children's Books imprint. All products and programs can be found online at www.thekustore.com.
