Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS) is an independent, not-for-profit organization offering services to support libraries and other cultural heritage institutions.  An organization created by libraries, WiLS was designed to facilitate library cooperation and resource sharing, and has been doing so since 1972.

WiLS serves as a catalyst for innovative projects that expand individual member resources through cooperative ventures and programming; advocates for library services to enhance collaboration and keep libraries relevant in the electronic information world; embraces an ever-wider segment of the Wisconsin library community through leadership,strategic partnerships and communication.

What Kinds of Services does WiLS Provide

  • WiLS provides interlibrary loan service from the resources of the UW-Madison Libraries and The Wisconsin Historical Society.
  • WiLS offers a Cooperative Purchasing program for discounts on electronic databases and related products to save money for libraries.
  • WiLS coordinates/supports other collaborative projects including AskAway Virtual Reference and Wisconsin Heritage Online (WHO).
  • WiLS sponsors/provides training and continuing education events including three annual conferences: on leading-edge information technology called WiLSWorld, a chance for technical services departments to collaborate at Peer Council, and sharing future visions and movements in resource sharing at ILL Meeting.
  • WiLS is a billing partner for OCLC.
