• Peer Council Update

We're excited to announce more details on the afternoon concurrent session for Peer council, a discussion of the Library of Congress Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control's report, "On the Record." From the report:

The future of bibliographic control will be collaborative, decentralized, international in scope, and Web-based. Its realization will occur in cooperation with the private sector, and with the active collaboration of library users. Data will be gathered from multiple sources; change will happen quickly; and bibliographic control will be dynamic, not static. The underlying technology that makes this future possible and necessary - the World Wide Web - is now almost two decades old. Libraries must continue the transition to this future without delay in order to retain their significance as information providers.

Join us for a discussion of this landmark report and the response from the library community. We'll hear reactions and perspectives from panelists with varied backgrounds: Michael Cohen, Head, Copy Cataloging & Catalog Maintenance Units at UW-Madison General Library System; Amy Gannaway, Cataloging and PAC Support Specialist at SCLS LINK; Allison Kaplan, Associate Faculty Associate at UW-SLIS; and Deb Shapiro, Instructional Program Manager at UW-Madison SLIS. Bring your comments and questions for what promises to be a lively discussion.

Worried about missing out on the DEMCO book repair workshop? Even if you choose to attend the panel, you may take home a complimentary book repair kit. Attendants to the book repair workshop are reminded to bring a pair of scissors and a HARDBOUND book with a spine width of 3/4" to 1" (no smaller, no larger). This book should be a DISCARDED BOOK as the cover will be cut off and repaired for training purposes.

For more information and to register, visit the Peer Council web site.

• Temporary hold on Local Holdings Offline Product orders

In order to install a fix to a problem with the Local Holdings Offline Product process, OCLC has decided to hold LHOP orders placed May 1st-11th. No action is necessary, as any affected libraries will be notified, and further OCLC expects that the promised three week turnaround time frame will not be affected. Contact Nichole Fromm (nfromm @ wils.wisc.edu) or Jane Richard (jrichard @ wils.wisc.edu) for more information.
