The WiLS Interlibrary Loan Lending Service was established in 1972 by a consortium of Wisconsin libraries. WiLS Lending Service enables libraries to get fast access to the physical and electronic collections from the University of Wisconsin-Madison at a reduced lending cost and facilitates resource sharing between member libraries.

WiLS also provides lending service members with a newsletter, training and mentoring, workflow consulting, discount rates for commercial services, and a 24-hour rush service to the UW-Madison collection.

To become a lending service member, please contact Stef Morrill.

To better understand the service and its cost, please visit How to use the Lending Service.

Once you are a lending service member, please login to place requests via ILLiad.

"Remote" Borrowing Service
WiLS Resource Sharing librarians and technical staff provide the labor for searching, problem solving, answering conditionals, and delivery of articles for your interlibrary loan borrowing service. Loan requests are sent directly to your patrons rather then to our clearinghouse and articles are frequently delivered to your patron in 48 hours with no staff intervention on your part. WiLS staff make use of ILLiad to login remotely to place requests to maintain your interlibrary loan budget via IFM and EFTS within OCLC and DocLine. WiLS maintains any policies you may have for borrowing request placement and work to reduce the overall expense of your borrowing operations while meeting your service expectations for your patrons. Your patron’s experience with interlibrary loan would not change; WiLS' interlibrary loan librarians would simply be doing the bulk of the work rather then your own staff.

WILS currently provides this service to seven member libraries

Please contact Eric Robinson to inquire about the "remote" borrowing service.

Resource Sharing Workflow Consulting
WiLS resource sharing consultants can visit your library in person and determine the "state'" of your interlibrary loan service. WiLS consultants will offer recommendations to enhance your productivity and examine how to reduce your operational costs.

During the visit the consulting staff will document: a summary of the library and interlibrary loan service, describe the interlibrary loan staffing and budget, software and automation, consorital borrowing and commercial document delivery usage, issues tied to copyright and licensing, your service priorities for constituents, and measure productivity.

Please contact Eric Robinson to inquire about workflow consulting.
