How to Use WiLS ILL Service

Sending requests

Send requests by OCLC or Web Request form (contact WiLS at wilsill@wils.wisc.edu to set up and authorization to use the WiLS Web request).

Use GZM for all UW-Madison campus library OCLC codes including: GZM, GZH, GZI, GZL, WIH, WIY.

Always include the important bibliographic information on the request and verify the journal title or book in a major tool such as OCLC, Wiscat, or Madcat. If you can't verify the title, you can send your request to our reference service.

If you are an OCLC library, you can use the WILS/MINITEX arrangement for requests with no campus locations or requests that you want to go on to MINITEX locations if unfilled in Madison.

Include the copyright compliance code on a request for a copy. For more information, see our copyright pages .

Delivery Options

Articles - We will send you the articles via Ariel, Edoc, fax, Odyssey, PDF, Wisconsin Red Box System, or U.S. mail. Please let us know what your preferred method is.

Loans — We will send the item via the Wisconsin Red Box System, UPS, or U.S. Postal Service.

E-Doc is an electronic delivery service that WiLS offers to allow direct electronic delivery to your ILL office and/or to your patron. There is no added charge for this service. For further details please see E-Doc.

Renewals

Send renewal requests on OCLC or email a message to wilsill@wils.wisc.edu if you sent a web request. Circulation policies are set by the individual campus libraries. We will try to renew the item if your patron needs it longer but cannot always do so.

Status of Request

If you want information on the status of your request of you haven’t received an item that is designated as shipped, contact us for a status check. We will track it down and reissue if it needed. Call 608.263.4981 or email wilsill@wils.wisc.edu.

Rush Service (Request Express)

If you need an item sent to you within 24 business hours, place the word "RUSH" in the Borrowing Notes field of the OCLC request, or set up a web account (register at wilsill@wils.wisc.edu), then check the rush box on the request. The cost is higher (see ILL Service fees) but we will not charge if we fail to fill in 24 business hours.
