Becoming a WiLS Member Library

Purpose

The WiLS Interlibrary Loan Service was established in 1972 by a consortium of Wisconsin libraries. WiLS ILL enables libraries to get fast access to materials in the UW-Madison Campus libraries and facilitates resource sharing between member libraries while paying a single bill annually.

Deposit Account

To use the ILL service, you must either be a Full WiLS Member or a Resource Sharing member and must set up an ILL deposit account. (Annual Member Fees and ILL Service Fees).

Who can join

Any Wisconsin library can join. Most academic and some public, school and special libraries have joined. Most other libraries receive interlibrary loan service from the state Reference and Loan library.

Services

For ILL member libraries, we access the 21 UW-Madison campus libraries to fill the requests and we refer unfilled requests to state, national, and international libraries. Members also receive referral credits, a newsletter, electronic desktop delivery to patrons, access to our back-up reference service, an annual meeting, workshops, consulting, discounted rates to commercial services, and a 24-hour rush service.
