Videos - Archived recordings of past web conference sessions

Download video recordings of past Web Conference sessions. We don't attempt to keep every single session, but we will retain and make available those sessions of the most interest and most informative. We will continue our current practice of making all our web conference session recordings available, through the Pyle Center, for 2 weeks after their presentation. This specific collection are sessions we feel are worth making available past the usual 2 weeks.

If you have comments or questions please contact: Mark Beatty, mbeatty@wils.wisc.edu, 608.265.5719

Is OPAC Dying? A Special Program for Academic Libraries
October 5, 2006; 9:00-12:00 at UW-Oshkosh

This special program for academic libraries to learn about/discuss some provocative possibilities will be held at UW-Oshkosh Reeve Union in the Wisconsin Room 306 (Map). Co-sponsored by the Council of University of Wisconsin Libraries. There is no charge, but academic library attendees should register in advance.

Presenters:
Gregg Silvis, Assistant Director for Library Computing Systems, University of Delaware, questions the continued viability of the local OPAC. Can a discovery tool based on the card catalog meet the demands of libraries and their patrons in a web-connected world? (see Impending Demise pdf )

Matt Goldner, Executive Director of OCLC Cooperative Collection Services, presents a vision of a WorldCat-based discovery service for all local library resources that is connected to resources and search engines worldwide. (see slideshow Putting Library Service Where Our Users Live and Work)
