Fall WiLS Peer Council Meeting

Registration and refreshments will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Sessions are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.

Our keynote presenter is Ross Shanley-Roberts of Miami University (Ohio). In the first hour, Ross will share some of the new visions of accessing and using "bibliographic" data developed by Amazon, Google, LibraryThing and WorldCat. He will also discuss some of the tools available for libraries to replicate and improve upon these techniques.

The second hour will be a discussion of broader techniques and visions that libraries can use to become truly indispensable in their communities. Some of the topics include institutional repositories, writing centers, technology centers and research partnerships.

The late morning sessions will include:
• Patrick Wilkinson giving a report on OCLC Member's Council.
• Kirsten Houtman will talk about WorldCat.org and BadgerCat.

The afternoon sessions will include:
• Ross Shanley-Roberts' discussion
• Jane Richard will present an OCLC update.
• Debbie Cardinal, Julie Schneider and Diane Witter will give updates on Wisconsin Heritage Online

What is Peer Council?

Peer Council is what other entities often call a user group. In Wisconsin, it is important to the WiLS member libraries that the aspect of equal participation by all be emphasized and always apparent with the use of the word "peer." The Peer Council meetings are an opportunity to talk with your peers and appreciate WiLS member library differences as well as similarities. WiLS, along with the elected Peer Council officers, plan these meetings.
