Training Opportunities

  • Catalogers Clatsch Hours are online sessions offered for member libraries every second Tuesday of every other month. These sessions are free, unless they are instructional, then a $25 fee will be indicated. For a list of past web sessions see Catalogers' Clatsch.

  • WorldCat Resource Sharing Basics and Tricks are online courses delivered over 2 days consisting of two-hour long sessions as a lecture demo with hands on homework exercises of about another 1 hour per day. See the course list.

  • OCLC also provides online training, see OCLC's Educational Tutorials

  • Virtual Reference Best Practices are held every third Thursday of the month. (This is a user group so there is no charge for the online session). See AskAway Best Practices.

  • WiLS Hours are online sessions for member libraries every first Tuesday of the month.
    Sessions are $25 for Level One members, all other registrants will be charged $55/site login.
    Some sessions may be free for all libraries. For a list of web sessions see WiLS Hours.

WiLS Cancellation and Refund Information

If a WiLS training session is cancelled due to low registration or inclement weather, participants will be notified and fees, if applicable, will be refunded. Staff will also make an effort to contact registrants via email. If in doubt, please call 608.263.5051. If WiLS makes the decision to hold the workshop regardless of weather conditions, you should make every effort to attend.

Refunds for on-site programs
egistrants unable to attend a training session should notify WiLS at least 2 business days prior to the training date in order to receive a refund or credit. If you are unable to attend a WiLS event and do not notify WiLS in advance, you will be charged the registration fee, if applicable. Exceptions may be made for registrants unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. inclement weather or illness). Please contact WiLS if you cannot attend (608.263.5051).

Refunds for webinars
Registrants unable to attend a webinar should notify WiLS at least 2 business days prior to the webinar date in order to receive a refund or credit, if applicable. If you are unable to attend a WiLS webinar and do not notify WiLS in advance, you will be charged the registration fee, if applicable. Exceptions may be made for registrants unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. inclement weather or illness). Once a webinar is underway, you and/or your institution are responsible for the webinar registration fee. If you are unable to log in to the webinar due to technical issues, please contact WiLS for assistance (608.263.5051). If we are unable to help you, we will reschedule or issue a refund.

Web Conferencing System Setup

(Details for OCLC Connexion Hours and WiLS Hours.)
Note for WiLS Hour participants: WiLS has reserved 20 phone lines and 40 computer lines. Registrations for each session are accepted on "first-come, first served" basis. We will contact you if we have exceeded the limit.

Register directly with WisLine Conferencing: www.uwex.edu/ics/wlwreg/wlwwelcome.cfm Select Wisconsin Library Services, then scroll down and select the (fill in name) session you would like to attend. Participants will receive an email with URL login information, as well as, phone numbers for the audio portion of the session. If your call is a toll-free call to Madison, please use the local 316-0022 number. If your call is a toll call to Madison, use the WisLine toll-free 1-888-677-9189 number. Once you've registered you will receive specific login information.

To optimize your experience, you'll need access to the web during the session, as well as a telephone with a mute button. Additionally, if several staff in your library want to attend, we recommend a telephone with both speaker and mute functionality. We'll be using the web-conferencing software offered through the University's WisLine Web to host these classes.

You will also need the following computer hardware and software to take part in a WisLine Web conference:
• Pentium 200 Mhz (or faster) with 64 MB RAM (minimum) running Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 or up-to-date PC with windows XP or Vista or MAC OSX with as much ram as you can manage
•Monitor display resolution set to 800 x 600 pixels or higher (1024 x 768 is recommended)
• Broadband or faster connections
• And one of the following browsers installed with Java enabled: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (recommended) OR Netscape Navigator 4.01 through 4.76 (NOTE: Netscape 7 is not currently certified, although you may be able to use it. Netscape 6 is NOT supported.).
For attendees using Mac OS: OSX 10.1 or newer (OS 9.x is not supported) Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 or newer (Netscape Navigator is not supported) Presenters need all of the above, PLUS PCs with at least 128 MB of RAM (it is recommended that presenters NOT use a Mac).


How to Join the Conference

Dial the number you received from WiLS after you have accessed the web page below.
1. Click this web link: Meeting URL
2. Choose New Registrant or Returning Registrant and follow the instructions; once you have signed up, record your user name and password for future use.
3. You can enter the web meeting area 30 minutes in advance of the conference start time. It is advisable to enter the conference as early as possible.
4. The audio for this presentation will be supplied by the WisLine Teleconference Service, a service of Instructional Communications Systems (ICS), Madison, Wisconsin. Just prior to the start of the event, dial the audio number and enter the conference code followed by the pound (#) sign as listed in your emailed instructions from WiLS
