About Level 1 Services

DISCOUNTS ON PURCHASES

STAFF: Kirsten Houtman & Sara Gold

Enhanced Cooperative Purchasing is a program within WiLS that provides customized services that go beyond traditional cooperative purchasing and are tailored to meet the specific needs of member libraries. Enhancements include:
* Cost savings opportunities through expanded group purchases
* In-depth comparative database trials as well as custom trials that can be prearranged or conducted upon request for academic, public or K12 libraries
* Ongoing research and reporting of new trends in databases pertinent to specific library types
* Expansion to products beyond databases including e-books and software

TECHNICAL SERVICES WORKFLOW ANALYSIS

STAFF: Jane Richard

WiLS will document technical services procedures, including collection management, acquisitions, cataloging and physical processing of print and electronic resources. Through interviews and observation of staff from the targeted areas, WiLS will seek to understand the full range of processes and procedures at the library. WiLS will work with staff to document the existing workflows and provide a report highlighting possible areas for further attention, including identification of redundancies and duplication of effort. The goal is for the libraries to use staff in the most efficient way possible.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN WORKFLOW ANALYSIS

STAFF: Eric Robinson & Bob Shaw

WiLS staff will visit the member library in person to document: a summary of the library and ILL services, describe the ILL staffing and budget, software and automation, consorital borrowing and commercial document delivery usage, issues tied to copyright and licensing, the service priorities for constituents, and measure productivity. The final report will record the ‘state" of ILL for the member, and will offer recommendations to enhance productivity and to reduce operational costs.

WEB DEVELOPMENT
STAFF: Mark Beatty; web graphics/design Sheila Zillner

The service includes the creation of a web site on the user-friendly WordPress content management system, in-person initial consultation and training for the library’s staff, and documentation and instructions to keep the web site up-to-date.

RESEARCH PROJECTS BY REQUEST

All WiLS staff
These are very short term informational materials, webinars, or referrals that WiLS staff facilitate for members' situational interests. These will be considered a part of a 25 hour allotment of "WiLS staff help" that a member library can expect to ask of WiLS annually. Ideas for projects will be initiated by community managers and their involvement with their member libraries. Projects should be 1-2 page executive informational reports that can range in topics.
